It is possible to use Pangolin's LD2000 system on a notebook computer, however, the LD2000 software requires the QM2000 board in order to function.
The QM2000 hardware may be connected to the notebook computer in one of 3 ways:

  1. 1-slot PCI Expansion System, from MagmaThe MAGMA PCI Expansion System or other "Universal Docking Station", which uses the PCMCIA card bus or ExpressCard bus of the notebook to connect to a small box where the QM2000 hardware is installed.

Depending on the model you choose, there are MAGMA systems available which can hold anywhere from 1 to 13 QM2000 boards.

Information about the MAGMA PCI Expansion system can be found at: www.magma.com

  2. A Docking Station can be used, as long as it has one or more PCI slots available to insert the QM2000. The availability of docking stations changes from time to time, as laptop computer models change yearly. If you are interested in using a docking station, you will need to seek out laptops which have docking stations available. At this time, Dell and Lenovo (formerly IBM Thinkpad) are two companies that make laptop computers with available docking stations which a PCI slot. For convenience, we have provided a few relevant links below:

  3. The QM2000.NET system is Pangolin's latest, and most highly-recommended product for use with laptop computers.
This is a small box the size of an external CD-ROM drive, with a QM2000 board inside. Laptop-friendly version of the QM2000.NET

The QM2000.NET connects to a notebook (or desktop) computer trough the Ethernet (network) connection, and it can be used in conjunction with your existing Local Area Network, or may be connected directly to a computer using a cross-over cable.

The network cable can be up to 100 meters long without using a hub or repeater, and you can have up to 30 separate QM2000.NET boxes running simultaneously using a hub. This allows you to do large-scale shows, or shows that require the laser projector to be located far away from the controlling computer.

See the QM2000.NET web page for more information.
