The Alesis ADAT is a digital tape recorder designed for consumer and professional
music makers. The Alesis ADAT XT and ADAT XT-20 models can be modified to record laser
show control signals. The CADA-MOD board above is installed into the ADAT's
"CADA" board, and modifies the ADAT. It does not affect any functioning except
the ability to record laser show signals by performing the following operations:
-
Performs signal inversion, level shifting and impedance matching on input and output for
compatibility with the existing install base of ADATs.
-
Has input gain controls to accommodate a +/-2.5 volt to +/-12 volt input signal at each
RCA connector, or a +/- 5 volt to +/- 40 volt differential signal at the ELCO connector.
-
Has output gain controls to supply a +/-2.5 volt to +/-10 volt output signal at each RCA
connector, or a +/- 5 volt to +/- 40 volt differential signal at the ELCO connector.
-
Has offset trims for both input and output to null out any residual DC offset.
-
Gain control "stops" are set up so that factory calibration can be easily
returned to.
-
Has selectable input bandwidth limiting to avoid ringing on color signals (seen on older
ADATs).
-
Mounts directly to the CADA board via headers. Simply remove 14 "through-hole"
capacitors and plug the headers from this board into the holes of those components.
Since the CADA-MOD contains input and output gain controls, cabling becomes
trivial and external "gain and offset" boxes are eliminated. With the CADA-MOD,
an ADAT truly becomes a "one-box" laser recording and playback instrument.
Note that in 2007, Pangolin
officially stopped slling the CADA-MOD board. If
you are looking for a playback solution for laser
shows, we suggest using a computer along with our
Autoplay program, or using our
Flashback 3 Laser
Controller.
